“Find Your Flame”, the latest release from Leeds based Nubiyan Twist is a melting pot of flavors certain to satisfy your musical palette. You want toe tapping funky grooves. You got it here. A slice of reggae and afrobeat rhythms. Yes, there’s plenty of that too. Guitarist/producer Tom Excell manages to tie all these components together while receiving contributions from a number of notable musicians. “Lights Out” instantly pops partly due the soulful vocal harmonies but mainly because the unmistakable bassline from the legendary Nile Rogers. Frontwomen Aziza Jaye elevates the recordings with her gorgeous vocals. Jaye equally shines on the tropical “So Mi Stay”. The punchy Afrobeat rhythms of “Carry Me” receive a boost from Afrobeat pioneer Sean Kuti. “Slow Breath” featuring Mali native Mamani Keita allows us a moment to catch our breaths and enjoy the mellow groove. “Free” is another burning track featuring Ego Ella May holding down the chorus. Afro Futurist band Onipa is essentially Nubiyan Twist plus rapper K.O.G (Kweku Sackey). If you need one album to kickstart your next party then this is the one. No doubt you’re gonna have a funky good time.

Mörk – Still Dreaming [Albert’s Favourites]

Hailing from Budapest, Mork is a four piece band specializing in psychadelic jazz infused grooves. Guitarist Mark Zentai’s honey toned vocals are sprinkled over an array of ambient tracks here. “Towards The Sun” has a tasty groove and packs plenty of bounce for the dance floor. “Dromedar” is simmering apacey fusion highlighted by South London poet Brother Portrait. The mid-tempo “Only Mine” features Zentai’s vocals wrapped around a gorgeous melody and a wicked backbeat. The UK based label Albert’s Favourites consistently delivers gems and this is no exception. An impressive record that certainly deserves repeated listens.

Marcos Valle – Túnel Acústico [Far Out Recordings]

“Tunel Acustico” is the twenty third album by renowned Brazilian vocalist Marcos Valle. Valle’s latest release captures the highlights of his sixty year career. Valle has spent much of his time living between Los Angeles and Rio and the music is a reflection of the musical soundscapes of both regions. The opening track “Todo Dia Santo” is a simmering tune that features Alex Malheiros on bass and Renato Massa on drums from the legendary group Asymuth. “Life Is What It is” was originally wriiren in the late seventies by Valle and Laudir De Oliveira from the band Chicago. The breezy remastered tune features a sterling guitar solo from Paulinho Guitarra. “Feels So Good” is another composition that has been sitting on the shelf for decades. Originally recorded with the late Leon Ware, it has received AI sampling courtesy of Far Out recordings in-house producer Daniel Maunick. Ware’s falsetto is a perfect blend to Valle’s vocals. The rest of the recording is filled with an array of sublime compositions you’ve come to expect from Valle. A marvelous release from Valle who shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
